AMP has announced the appointment of David Murray AO as Chairman of its Board of Directors has been made with immediate effect.
Murray agreed to accept the chairmanship on 4 May 2018, when AMP announced that he would join the Board as Chairman on or before 1 July.
AMP interim Executive Chairman, Mike Wilkins, will now re-commence the role of acting Chief Executive Officer.
Once a new CEO is appointed, Wilkins will return to his role as a Non-Executive Director of the Board.
Murray said he is looking forward to working with Wilkins towards “reinvigorating AMP”.
“I am pleased to today begin the task of rebuilding AMP as Chairman, working with the Board and management to restore trust in the company,” said Murray.
“Our business has undoubtedly been challenged by recent events but the Board will set the tone from the top as we drive change across the business,” he said.
The new Chairman explained his first priority will be to renew the Board and strengthen their governance framework.
“Remediation of customers and rebuilding relationships with regulators will also be priorities,” said Murray.
He added, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Mike Wilkins for his leadership and his commitment to the company in stepping in as Executive Chairman over the past two months.”
