Chubb has appointed Monique Ravening as its new Head of Underwriting, replacing Matt Banham who’s taken up a role working with the wider Chubb group.
Ravening has spent 20 years as an underwriter, including Head of Underwriting at Fidelity Life and Tower Life. She was previously working with Chubb’s COO Debbie Eyre.
“For me, underwriting is fascinating,” says Ravening. “There are so many aspects to it and you never stop learning. The medical and financial aspects are incredibly important, but it’s the people side I’m constantly inspired by.
“Our role is to say ‘yes’ as often, as quickly and as easily as we can. Naturally there are times when we’re required to say ‘yes… but’, or consider the risk in a different way.
“However, I want customers and partners to understand the importance of the process and that we want to get it right every time.”
In other appointment news from Chubb, Erica Hamer has been named as the firm’s new Wellington-based Business Partnership Manager.
Hamer, who joins Chubb Life on 18 September, has more than 22 years’ experience in the industry, the majority being in underwriting.
