Proposal To Recognise Aussie Qualifications Gets Mixed Reaction

Following the FMA’s proposal to recognise Australian adviser qualifications we asked if you support the idea.

According to the responses of our poll question – which asked if advisers with qualifications obtained in Australia should be able to circumvent the training required of advisers in New Zealand – the majority of those who voted said ‘no’.

While the poll is still running, the results so far show that 62 per cent of you say ‘no’, 23 per cent are ‘not sure’, and 15 per cent of you say ‘yes’.

The FMA says there’s demand from Australian financial advisers to work in New Zealand and that some of their qualifications are equivalent to, or exceed, those that will apply in here from 15 March next year.

The FMA is keen to hear what you think about its proposal during its consultation period which closes on 20 November.

Should financial advisers with qualifications obtained in Australia be able to circumvent the training required of advisers in New Zealand?

  • No (63%)
  • Yes (19%)
