One of the country’s longest-serving independent financial advisers has passed away. Steve Richens (pictured), founder of Moneta, died following a stroke.

The 66-year-old ticked up more than three decades in the industry and had a long-running association with Fidelity Life. He passed away on Wednesday 22 September at Christchurch Hospital and a memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 28.

Fidelity Life’s Head of Distribution, Todd Allan, says Richens held positions on a number of advisory committees and was seen as an industry expert.

“He started Moneta, a fiercely independent, born and bred Canterbury business,” says Allan. “Steve Richens was a true character of New Zealand’s life insurance industry.”

Richens’ contributions to Fidelity Life were recognised with his winning of the Chairman’s Trophy 2012/2013 and the Fidelity Life Shield in 2014.
