News of how AIA’s staff have been affected by the Omicron virus, and its impact on the company’s business, caught the attention of readers this week…

The Covid-19 virus has knocked out staff at AIA NZ with all employees working from home and its call centre running on reduced hours.

Sharron Botica, AIA NZ Chief Customer & Digital Officer – who has stepped down from her role as the company’s Acting CEO – says like many businesses across the country, AIA has been impacted by Covid-19 with team members needing to isolate.

“The exact number of AIA employees on Covid-related leave varies week-to-week, and we expect this will continue as the Omicron variant moves through the population,” says Botica.

“It is important to note AIA claims turnaround times have not been impacted.”

The company sent an email to its clients saying the Omicron outbreak meant its call centre would be open between 8.30am and 5pm (live chat is available 8am to 6pm).

A spokesperson for the company also says the firm’s CEO Nick Stanhope is “back onboard” following a period of extended leave – he went on holiday in November last year.

In a statement, Stanhope says the past two years have been challenging for the firm with very few employees working in any of the company’s offices.

“I feel we need to start getting back to more of a ‘business as usual’ mindset,” he says.
