Fidelity Life has appointed James Fleet as Chief People & Strategy Officer; an internal appointment that the insurer says strengthens its focus on leadership and people priorities, aligned with enterprise strategy.

The company says Fleet joins the Executive Leadership Team from his role as Head of Strategy & Performance, where he has been responsible for shaping and delivering its strategy, performance frameworks and long‑term priorities.

His new role brings together responsibility for people, culture, communications and strategy to support the delivery of Fidelity Life’s strategic ambitions.

Campbell Mitchell, Fidelity Life CEO, says bringing strategy, people and performance together is critical to how the insurer delivers its next phase of growth.

“James brings a strong and rare combination of people capability, leadership experience and strategic, analytical thinking. He has already been leading the work to shape our strategy and performance frameworks, and has a proven ability to turn complex data into clear insights for Executive and Board decision‑making. I’m delighted to formally welcome him to the Executive Team.”

Fleet has been with Fidelity Life since 2022 when he joined as a Programme Manager, before moving into the role of Executive Manager – Office of the CEO, and most recently as Head of Strategy & Performance.

Prior to joining the company, he built broad people and change experience across complex organisations including Auckland Transport and, most recently, IAG.

In 2025, Fleet was named ANZIIF New Zealand Young Insurance Professional of the Year.

Fidelity Life says the Chief People & Strategy Officer role replaces the former Chief People & Communities Officer position, following Carly Orr’s departure in February 2026.
