Southern Cross Health Insurance will no longer accept applications for new Critical Illness policies from October 30 2026, as part of a review of its product range.

Chief Sales, Marketing & Customer Experience Officer, Regan Savage, says that importantly, this change does not affect existing Critical Illness policyholders.
“Members who currently hold Critical Illness cover will retain their cover, and we will continue to service and support those policies as usual. Existing policyholders will no longer be able to increase their level of cover or add dependants to their policy.”
He says the change reflects the insurer’s focus on “…simplifying our product portfolio and concentrating on the products and services that are core to our health insurance business.”
Savage notes the company is also making changes to its Cancer Assist product.
“Cancer Assist remains available for purchase and there are no changes to the cover provided. We are updating the Cancer Assist policy document to reflect wording improvements, corrections and alignment with current business practices. These changes do not affect members’ benefits or entitlements,” he says.
Updated policy documents for Critical Illness and Cancer Assist will take effect from 30 October 30, 2026 and will be available on Southern Cross’ website from that date.
