FMA Transitional Licensing Seminars

The Financial Markets Authority is conducting a series of roadshow seminars for advisers, advice businesses and others considering their options in the new financial advice regime.

Commencing this week in Auckland, the 90-minute seminars will cover how the application process for a transitional Financial Advice Provider (FAP) licence works. The seminars will also give advisers and advice business the opportunity to speak directly with the FMA about their own specific circumstances and options available to them under the new advice regime.

This seminar series, being conducted in a number of locations until the end of September, follows the release by the FMA in July of details about the nature and timing of transitional licenses (see: FMA Releases New Tool…).

The remaining seminar schedule comprises:

  • Auckland, 29 August 2019, 9 am – Rose Park Hotel, Parnell
  • Auckland 29 August 2019, 1 pm – Rose Park Hotel, Parnell
  • Wellington 5 September 2019, 9 am – Westpac Stadium
  • Hamilton 9 September 2019, 1 pm – Distinction Hotel
  • Christchurch 25 September 2019, 9 am – Pepper’s Clearwater Resort
  • Dunedin 26 September 2019, 9 am – Edgar Centre

The regulator will be emphasising during its seminar series that, to continue delivering financial advice under the new regime, advisers must decide whether to:

  • Obtain their own financial advice provider licence; or
  • Work on behalf of someone else who holds a licence

The FMA recommends advisers and advice business not delay their thinking until the last minute before deciding which approach to adopt.

Advisers can apply online for their transitional licence from Monday 4 November until June 2020.
