Our latest poll result indicates that advisers are giving life insurers a decent thumbs-up with regard to how the companies treat advisers’ clients at claim time.

More than half (54%) of respondents said life insurers treat their clients’ claims with objectively and fairness ‘mostly’; with another 31% saying insurers ‘always’ treat clients claims fairly, indicating that 85% of advisers are pretty happy with the companies’ objectivity and fairness.

Just 15% of those taking part in our poll said insurers treat clients’ claims with objectivity and fairness ‘sometimes’.

This latest poll question was prompted by huge reader interest in our earlier report laying out how an insurer went above and beyond after a customer made a complaint to an ombudsman service (see: Claim Complaint – Insurer Goes Beyond).

In essence, after the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme had recommended an insurer should pay 50% of a life insurance benefit from a policy, which the company had deemed as lapsed, the insurer subsequently decided that the fair outcome was to pay the claim in full and did so.

In light of this IFSO case study we were interested to understand advisers’ experience at claims time. Our poll remains open for another week and we are interesting to know your views…
