As the government look to tighten up the Privacy Act so advisers might find themselves falling foul of not only New Zealand law but European data protection laws too.
The collection, storing and sharing of client information, will come under increased scrutiny later in the year and those found to have breached New Zealand laws will not only face huge fines but public scrutiny as offenders will be named and shamed.
