Nib Promotion Covers Pre-Existing Conditions

Health insurer nib is offering to cover a range of pre-existing conditions for new customers joining its Ultimate Health or Ultimate Health Max plans via nibApply by 30 June 2021.

The company says its limited time promotion will add additional value to the two products by covering certain conditions after three years that it would normally apply a longer or permanent exclusion to.

The insurer says that by using nibAPPLY advisers’ clients will have clarity as to which pre-existing conditions are covered and which ones are not.

It says the pre-existing conditions that will be covered after three years include:

  • Diabetes – if the applicant has less than 170/100 blood pressure and Chol is under than 9.
  • Endometriosis
  • Hay fever
  • Grommet surgery

Nib says hay fever is one of the highest excluded conditions as it can lead to other complications such as sinusitis, ear infections which can then lead to ear, throat or sinus surgeries. If a client has hay fever then under this campaign they will be covered for potential complications should they occur after three years.

The company also says there is a long wait for grommet surgery in the public system and it can cost up to $6,000 for the procedure. Grommet surgery will be covered after three years.

The company says that for some pre-existing conditions, permanent exclusions apply if they relate to the following conditions as defined by nib:

  • Cardiovascular conditions including some risk factors
  • Cancer
  • Hip, knee or back conditions
  • Transplant surgery
  • Reconstructive or reparative surgery

Exclusions will continue to apply in the case of  non-Pharmac benefits says nib.
