Southern Cross Healthcare will start fitting out its newest hospital in the north Auckland suburb of Silverdale within the next six months. The facility will be used to cater for the growing demand for care in the Hibiscus Coast and Bays areas.

The hospital – on the second floor of the Silverdale Medical & Surgical building – will have three operating theatres, a 10-bed ward, and is expected to open in mid-2023. The facility will also have nine recovery chairs for day surgeries.

Southern Cross Healthcare Interim CEO Chris White – pictured right with Southern Cross Healthcare Chief of Property & Development Courtney Bennett – says the organisation bought the Silverdale site eight years ago.

Hibiscus Coast and Bays is one of Auckland’s most populous areas, and residents currently have to travel further afield to access private surgical care, says Southern Cross.

The region has seen rapid population growth in recent years, increasing by 16% between the 2013 and 2018 censuses, and is forecast to have 144,800 residents by 2038.
