Less than a month after the official consultation period ended on the Government’s proposal to introduce its own income insurance scheme, Minister of Finance, Grant Robertson, announced its launch would be delayed by a year. It won’t now be introduced until 2024.
To fund the scheme, which will provide 80% of a person’s wages or salary for six months if they find themselves out of work through no fault o their own, business owners and their employees will pay an extra tax of 1.39%.
