Poll Shows Low Support for Government’s Income Insurance Scheme

0

Last week we asked if you support the Government’s plan to introduce a state-backed income insurance scheme, and the overwhelming response is ‘no’.

Minister of Finance, Grant Robertson, says the proposed scheme – which has been delayed by a year to 2024 – would support those who find themselves out of work through no fault of their own. However, there would be a cost to both employees and employers by way of an extra 1.39% tax.

Costs aside, a scheme along the lines proposed by the Government could have an impact on certain sections of the insurance sector.

There’s still time to cast your vote as the poll closes on Tuesday 7 June.

Do you support the Government's plan to introduce a state-backed income insurance scheme?

  • No (80%)
  • Yes (11%)
  • Not sure (9%)
