Partners Life is warning financial advisers of possible scam calls from someone using the name of a genuine member of staff.
The insurer says it has heard of mischievous/malicious phone calls that could be a possible scam.
“We have been made aware of a series of calls made from a New Zealand mobile phone number to an adviser business from someone purporting to be from Partners Life,” says the company.
“The number, when called back, diverted to a number in India. This could be a scam, even though the caller used the name of a Partners Life staff member.”
The company warns that numbers can be diverted to a premium rate number “…which may result in an invoice shock”.
“These calls are not from Partners Life or the staff member mentioned [by the caller] and so we urge caution if receiving calls from an unusual number, that on the face of it seem to be from Partners Life.”
