Strong Support for Career Connect Recruitment Drive

Fidelity Life has seen a diverse mix of job hunters register for its recently launched Career connect initiative, including many from outside the sector.

Trecia Brown, the firm’s Head of Solutions and Services, says inquiries for its financial adviser training scheme have come from those working in banking, accounting, civil engineering, construction, healthcare, education, retail and agriculture.

“We want the next generation of financial advisers to reflect the diversity of our people,” says Brown.

“Our initial focus for Career connect information evenings is to attract people eager to work in the industry and give them a comprehensive overview of what it’s like to be a financial or risk adviser.”

Fidelity Life has seen more than 40 advice businesses register their interest to take on qualified advisers from the Career connect programme, and a similar number of potential candidates have registered to find out more.

“We’re looking for people who are motivated by helping others and those who enjoy a challenging and dynamic environment,” says Brown.

She says reaction from the industry about Career connect has been positive.

“We consulted with the FSC and Financial Advice NZ and they were both supportive of what we’re trying to achieve,” she says. “The reception from existing adviser businesses has also been positive.”

Brown says Fidelity Life is dedicating significant resources to getting Career connect established, “…because we know it’s an issue too big to ignore – and one we can’t wait for someone else to solve”.

“As some advisers look to retire or leave the industry, we need to ensure there are enough advisers to meet the needs of the market,” says Brown.

The first Career connect evenings will be hosted online on 18 October and 3 November, with the first intake due in February 2023. Those interested can register here.
