A bid by the FMA to establish what New Zealanders think is fair when it comes to financial institutions finds that a little more than half believe they receive fair treatment from their insurance provider.

In a survey carried out for the regulator, around 3,000 consumers were asked to assess 33 hypothetical scenarios related to financial providers, and then decide how fair each scenario was.

The FMA concludes that while results were not absolute, its findings suggest there is a consistent understanding of what is fair or unfair by consumers.
