Results from the FMA’s 2024 Consumer Confidence Survey indicate that Māori and women are less likely to have life or health insurance, but Māori are more likely to have funeral insurance.

The FMA says in a new factsheet entitled Consumer Confidence Survey – Ethnicity and Gender Analysis that the purpose of the nationwide survey* was to gain an understanding of New Zealanders’ experiences with financial markets including insurance, investment, KiwiSaver, and financial markets regulation (also see: Confidence in Financial Sector Down on Last Year).

The regulator highlights that the survey also indicates that Māori and women are less likely to feel confident in New Zealand financial markets, and also less likely to feel confident that financial markets are effectively regulated.

The authority notes the research also picked up differences in the likelihood of different groups using Buy Now/Pay Later products, credit cards, and the popularity of various investment products.
