The Government’s introduction of a 5-year Parent Boost Visa, which will support migrant families whose children are permanent residents or citizens of NZ and is subject to health and insurance requirements, has been welcomed by nib New Zealand.

The insurer says the visa, which opens for applications from 29 September 2025, will allow eligible parents of New Zealand citizens or residents to live in New Zealand for up to 10 years, subject to health and insurance requirements.

nib New Zealand’s CEO, Rob Hennin, says the company supports the Government’s approach to enabling family reunification in a way that protects individuals and the public health system.

“This new visa offers families the opportunity to reconnect, living in the same country. By ensuring visa holders have private health cover in place, the policy also offers some support for New Zealand’s public health system, and reduces the risk of unexpected costs for families.”

The company says nib Group provides cover to more than 1.9 million people across Australia and New Zealand. nib NZ, through its specialist international visitor brand, OrbitProtect, offers health insurance to almost 40,000 international students and workers in New Zealand each year.

It plans to offer health cover options to those travelling to Aotearoa under the new visa.
