The insurer says premiums may be waved for up to three months, with the potential to extend for up to a further three months, without affecting their insurance protection.

Chief Commercial Officer Bronwyn Kirwan says the focus is on giving customers practical support as communities recover.

“We know Cyclone Vaianu has caused widespread disruption across parts of New Zealand, and for many families the financial impact adds another layer of stress during an already difficult time.”

She says the premium relief is about giving customers some breathing room “…while ensuring their insurance cover remains in place. It’s one way we can help people focus on getting back on their feet without worrying about their protection.”

Fidelity Life says its Cyclone Vaianu relief offer builds on hardship support already in place for eligible customers affected by earlier severe weather events in other parts of the country including:

  • The Ōtorohanga and Waipā Districts
  • The Manawatū‑Whanganui region
  • Banks Peninsula Ward
  • Parts of the Far North and Whangārei Districts
