Asteron Life Responds to Coronavirus Challenge

The Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak has led to Asteron Life wanting additional information from people applying to them for cover.

The change applies to applicants who may have had contact with 2019-nCoV or who have travelled to or from, or transited, mainland China since 1 December 2019.

A spokesperson for Asteron Life says that in both instances, applicants will be contacted by its underwriters to understand more about their travel history, travel plans, or potential exposure to 2019-nCoV.

In a statement the firm says: “If recent travel to China or close contact with a person diagnosed with 2019-nCoV is disclosed, a 14-day period must have passed since the applicant’s contact with the virus or return to New Zealand before Asteron Life will consider offering cover.

“This follows public health advice around timeframes for virus symptoms to present in infected people.”
