AIA to Research Mental Health Issues Among Financial Advisers

AIA NZ is funding research into the levels of wellbeing and mental health of financial advisers in New Zealand.

The insurer has asked Sydney-based peak performance researcher Dr Adam Fraser to produce the report, which is due to be completed by the year-end.

Dr Fraser has a PhD in biomedical science and worked on a similar project sponsored by AIA Australia earlier this year.

In a first-of-its-kind study that led to the publication of the Australian Financial Advisers Wellbeing Report 2021, Dr Fraser, working with Dr John Molineux of Deakin University, found poor levels of mental and physical health among financial advisers in Australia.

Among the key findings of the report were that:

  • 73% of respondents have high levels of burnout from stress
  • 67% experience some level of depression
  • 61% have poor sleep due to stress
