Southern Cross Healthcare, which runs and manages private hospitals, has appointed Mark Stewart (pictured) as its Chief Operating Officer.

Stewart arrives at Southern Cross from PwC where he led the company’s engagement with national telehealth service Whakarongorau Aotearoa.

Prior to that role, Stewart  – who holds a PhD in Management Science/Operations Research – spent more than a decade working for NZ Post, including four years as the state-owned enterprise’s COO.

Southern Cross Healthcare CEO Chris White – the insurer’s former COO – says Stewart was drawn to the organisation’s commitment to revolutionising private healthcare, particularly following his work at PwC.

Stewart says: “The business has big ambitions to transform New Zealand’s private healthcare, [and] I’m looking forward to bringing my operational experience to the table, and help the team deliver on those goals.”

He will join the organisation on 20 June.
