Financial Advice New Zealand’s programme for its Connect 2026 Tour will include a practice standard workshop on the Nature and Scope of Advice in a peer group exercise designed to road-test the proposed Practice Standard with practical client scenarios.
The session will address Financial Advice NZ’s proposed Common Practice Standard: Nature and Scope of Advice which has been developed to help give advisers and FAPs greater confidence to provide advice of an intentionally limited nature and scope, while maintaining full professional obligations around suitability, competence, client understanding and client care.
Financial Advice NZ says advisers attending the Connect Tour will road-test the proposed Practice Standard in practical client scenarios and contribute their views to the consultation process.

“Working with the adviser peers at your table, you will apply the worksheet to test whether a scoped advice engagement can proceed safely, whether the scope should be widened, whether referral is needed, or whether the adviser should decline to proceed. You will also discuss the consultation questions and help shape a profession-led standard that supports access to advice without lowering professional expectations,” the programme says.
Financial Advice NZ told RiskinfoNZ that registrations for the nation-wide tour, which kicks off in Dunedin on September 7 and concludes in Auckland on September 18, are going well with current numbers on track to surpass attendance at the 2025 events (see: Registrations Open).
Other speakers on the tour include Paula Damen, of Generate, on KiwiSaver, SMEs and the retirement advice opportunity; Ryan Edwards, of The Adviser Platform, on how to reclaim advice capacity; Josh Daniell of Akahu on open banking and using client data to support better advice; and Financial Advice NZ’s Financial Capability Award Recipient, Anna Cuming and Maryann Pratt, of Professional Investment Services Manawatū, on raising financial literacy in the community.
