Cigna has paid clients who signed up for its free critical illness cover $80,000 since its launch earlier this year.

In a promotion it ran in February and March, the insurer offered customers who took out an eligible life policy, or topped up cover through a financial adviser, up to $30,000 of free critical illness cover for two years.

David Haak, Cigna’s General Manager – Distribution, says two of the claims made were from customers age under 30.

“Not only does this demonstrate the importance of having the right cover in place no matter your age or stage, it’s also a good reminder that the unexpected can occur at any time,” says Haak.

He says the cover designed to help minimise the financial impact if a customer was to experience a serious illness or condition such as cancer, heart attack, or a major head trauma.
