New Course Helps Close the Training Gap

Training provider MySolutionsAcademy has launched a new adviser training course that it says fills a gap in the market left by the mutuals.

Glen Hatcher, a Director at the firm, says most new adviser courses focus on product features and benefits.

“We, as practitioners ourselves, understand that knowing products alone is not how you get started in this industry,” he says. “It starts with having the right passion, intention, and mostly the ability to prospect effectively.”

Hatcher says he found a gap in the adviser training market when his firm was asked to take on some advisers.

“We found there was very little available for new advisers. Since then, we have gone on to train and help hundreds of advisers navigate and continue to grow in this industry.

“Most of the great training courses were run by the mutuals – they don’t exist anymore.”

Th course is made up of nine modules and costs $800 plus GST “…there is mentoring and coaching available throughout”.

The course covers:

  • Understanding insurance and risk management
  • Prospecting and marketing
  • The importance of a process

We believe in collaboration and sharing knowledge…

Hatcher says he’s not asking those taking the course to do what he says, “…we’re showing people what we do, and how it works”.

“After 30-plus years of meeting with clients, forming trust, building relationships, running a business, paying claims – we’re out there practicing everyday and still learning, and we don’t want to gatekeep our knowledge and experience from new and existing advisers.

“We believe in collaboration and sharing knowledge in order to grow and elevate the industry as a whole.”

Kevin Smee, CEO of the firm, and Hatcher are the major authors of the course, although Hatcher says everyone who’s taken the course has provided feedback “…so it’s constantly improving”.

Hatcher says those completing the course should walk away with the confidence, knowledge, skills, and resources to feel comfortable to begin the advisory journey.

“This is just the beginning, and we want to create a thirst for knowledge,” he says.

“This industry is vast and broad and is a continuous learning journey. We are aiming to build the next generation of advisers to leave the industry in a better place than when we found it.”
