AIA NZ has released its 2024 Sustainability Report which the company says highlights “…the meaningful progress the organisation is making through long-term action and purpose-driven leadership.”

The insurer says the report Sustaining Healthier, Longer Better Lives, outlines the steps AIA NZ is taking to deliver on this purpose, structured around five ESG strategic pillars:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Sustainable Investment
  • Sustainable Operations
  • People and Culture
  • Effective Governance

AIA says the key highlights of the 2024 Sustainability Report include that it:

  • Commenced the refurbishment of its Auckland head office built in line with sustainable building practices, including diverting 235,569 kg from landfill to charitable organisations and schools
  • Paid 92% of claims totalling $829.6 million (see: AIA Pays $830 Million in Claims)
  • Launched the first AIA NZ Claims Compass with a spotlight on cancer claims
  • An AIA Vitality MoleMap campaign which resulted in the identification of 111 malignant lesions
  • Published AIA NZ’s first Climate Statements
  • Won the 2024 FSC Award for Excellence in Sustainability Practices.

The company say it’s committed to a sustainable future. “This commitment aligns with AIA Group’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes a target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. AIA Group has also adopted the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to guide the setting of science-based emissions reduction goals, providing a framework that informs AIA NZ’s local actions.”

Nick Stanhope, AIA NZ CEO, says it’s encouraging to see meaningful progress across a wide range of focus areas over the past year.

“We’re proud of the strides we’ve made on our journey to Net Zero, but we also know there’s more work ahead to meet the ambitious goals we’ve set across our ESG pillars.”

The company notes that in 2024, it protected more than 797,000 New Zealanders. The year also marked the fifth anniversary of AIA Vitality “…which now supports over 75,000 members with tools and incentives to live healthier lives.”
