News that NZFSG has announced a planned leadership transition drew much reader interest this week…

New Zealand Financial Services Group has announced a planned leadership transition as Baden Martin steps down as CEO after two years in the role and Bruce Patten becomes CEO and Managing Director.

The company says the transition has been planned and approved as part of the board’s long-term leadership and succession strategy. Patten takes on the new role in late December, following a six-week handover period.

It says Patten is one of New Zealand’s “…most respected advisers, having been part of NZFSG since 2002. He’s built a business at Loan Market consistently in the top 1%, known for its strong team culture, consistency and client focus.”

He will lead NZFSG’s strategy and operations, working with advisers, lender and insurance partners, and the corporate team to drive growth and strengthen the adviser experience.

NZFSG Chairman Brendon Smith says Patten brings “…deep industry experience, authentic leadership and an adviser-first perspective. He understands what it takes to build a successful business and has the respect of advisers, partners and the wider industry.”

The company says Baden has led it through a complex and changing environment over the past two years, helping usher in new regulation, navigate shifts in lender and insurance models, and strengthen the foundations of the business.

“We’re grateful for his hard work, significant contribution and leadership during this time to make NZFSG a better home for advisers,” Smith says, noting the transition marks a natural next step for the business.

“The time is right for a new phase of leadership as NZFSG focuses on its next chapter of growth and innovation. This decision was made collaboratively, with the full support of the board and with continuity for advisers, partners and staff front-of-mind.”

The transition will be board-led and supported by long term Executive Directors Sam White, Ewen Stafford, Andrew Jamson and Brian Greer, alongside Non-Executive Directors Nicola Riordan and Therese Singleton.
