RiskinfoNZ reported in July that the 2025-2026 year had seen FSCL advising that despite a record-breaking year for financial services disputes, disputes involving financial advisers were markedly down from a year earlier (see: Fewer Disputes Involving Financial Advisers).

The Annual Report also shows there were a total of 1,596 complaints received of which 159 (10%) were about financial advisers with 130 complaints about insurers (8%).

The report states that complaints regarding financial advisers were about “advice inappropriate or inadequate”, while complaints about insurers were about “policy wording unfair or misapplied.”
