Our poll question this week hinges around productivity and queries whether to be more efficient advisers should delegate the completion of life insurance applications to a team member.
The question stems from an insightful message from Kiwi risk specialist adviser, Brian Burgess, at the 2026 MDRT Global Conference in Sydney last week. Burgess said advisers struggling to find enough hours in the day might benefit from asking a simple question about every task they perform: Should I do it, delegate it or dump it? (See: Do it, Delegate it or Dump it).
His views prompted us to wonder if other advisers feel the same way about delegating these type of tasks. For a one-person practice, such delegation may not be possible, but if it were, would you do so?
Perhaps your business has already gone down this track or is contemplating doing so.
Burgess said the pressure he had been experiencing in his advice business wasn’t simply the product of wanting to grow. It was because he was “…spending far too much time in the wrong part of the business.” As he sees it “Delegation is not laziness. It’s not avoidance. It’s structure.”
So what is your view? Is this type of delegation for you? Is it both plausible and do-able? Or if not do-able just yet, might you do so in the future?
We’ll report back on your thinking next week…
