Craig Stobo is the new chair of the FMA, replacing Mark Todd, whose term expired at the end of April. Stobo’s appointment is for a five-year term.
Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Andrew Bayly announced the appointment saying the FMA plays a crucial role ensuring the financial market is fair and transparent.
“Mr Stobo brings a significant depth of experience to the role, having worked as a director, diplomat, economist, and chief executive,” says Bayly.
Stobo is currently Chair of NZX-listed NZ Windfarms, the NZ Local Government Funding Agency, Elevation Capital Management, and Saturn Portfolio Management.
“The FMA will benefit from Mr Stobo’s understanding of market issues and regulation, as well as the importance of informed participation from businesses and investors,” says Bayly.
During his term of almost nine years at the regulator, including five as chair, Todd oversaw the appointment of Samantha Barrass as its CEO.
