Financial advisers looking to study Version 2 of the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) via distance learning can enrol at Professional IQ College.

The college is the first NZQA accredited private training establishment to launch Version 2 of the core qualification which includes at least one of the following modules: Investment; Life, Disability and Health Insurance; General Insurance; and Residential Property Lending.

Rod Severn, the college’s CEO, says its distance learning team provides ongoing support for advisers with a dedicated Student Liaison Co-ordinator and Assessor.

“Distance learning provides important support for advisers; it’s not like online learning in which advisers essentially go it alone,” says Severn.

The college’s revised version of the NZCFS course includes the latest technical and regulatory content, and the financial advice process is covered by its Specialty stream.

The qualification’s mandatory Core module covers the legislative framework examination, and is based on the Financial Services Legislation Amendment Act and changes to the Financial Markets Conduct Act.

Severn says that as well as catering for new advisers, the updated qualification reflects the learning needs of experienced advisers.

“Rather than relying only on theoretical and technical content, in Version 2 advisers can demonstrate their knowledge through a portfolio of evidence to show how they applied that knowledge to clients,” says Severn. “Case study material is provided to advisers new to the profession.”
